I got out of futon at 7:30 a.m. after waking up at 5:30 a.m., as I was outside, I thought there was snow so much on the ground than I thought at home. The height was 10 cm (4inches.) I cleared the road of the snow with a snow shovel. There was not snow so much on the car not like there, because the car was covered with the plastic sheet by me. A part of the snow had been sliding on the side of the car. So clearing the snow on the car was easier than before. By the way, when mom goes into a bed, she already had put a hot-water bottle in futon, but she said to me that it was broken and futon got wet a little yesterday morning. I checked it, it had a pin hole. It was used by mom for a long time, and it was made of steel, so I thought it got a pin hole. On top of that, she went to buy a new hot-water bottle at drugstore yesterday, but she forgot to buy it at all, she noticed what she had not got it at when I asked about that. I lent my electric foot heater last night that I was using at desk to write my web journal in daytime. She said to me that it was very warm this morning. I mean to lend it this night. By the way, I heard most American people did a general house cleaning in the spring. But almost all Japanese people did it at the end of the year. Yes, I did it in my room from 9 a.m. until noon. And I went into the mountain in deep snow to cut down a kind of small bamboo after that. We were Buddhists, but in Shinto, too. We use it at Shinto for New Years at home. I cut down a longer one with a saw, and brought it with me to my house, and I cut it to 6 to get a short one. And I got into the house at 1 p.m. and prepared a household Shinto altar for New Year, and it was over at 2 p.m. Usual year, I did it at evening at the last day of the year, so we were busy despite approaching to a next year. But I did it earlier for typing my journal on the Internet. Anyway, thanks for coming to my page to read and look at picture this year!  (DEC/31)

I woke up at 5:40 this morning. My mom meant to go to a hospital for her eyes today, but she made a call to the clinic before going there, then I heard they said that our hospital was over for this year yesterday. But she told me to go to a supermarket at 11 a.m. But I had to take off the sheet on the car before heading for there. At first, we went to a drugstore at 11:30. She bought some bottle of fizzy drinks and two box of energy drinks. I bought another painkiller and long underwear there. And we went a supermarket, she got into the store, but I got into a bookstore. I bought a motorcycle magazine after a long time. Her shopping was for New Years. And we came back home at 1 p.m. But I had to put the big sheet on the car again. It was cloudy from morning. By the way, this driving school on this picture was unofficial school at that time, so they said it was enough that we paid only 50,000 yen until we got a license.  There was a practice car on the snow of the road at this time,  so  I think it would be a little harder than summer to practice driving car. We do not have ED class at school, so most of we entered a driving school to get a car license. We can get it from 18 years old, so most driving schools are crowded with many students in winter vacation or summer vacation. I got it as I was 23 years old on my birthday. Anyway, I also watched the DVD of Erica on free movie site today again. I was dying to see her. (DEC/30)   ;

I woke up at 5:30 a.m. this morning, and got out of futon at 6 and went into the living room to watch TV. 　Mr. Izutsu said on this 　Monday on TV "I think there will be a commendation ceremony the day after tomorrow." It was the ceremony of Nikkan Sports movie award. I waited Erica in that news on TV. I could see her on TV this morning. The early bird catches the worm. She looked like a princess for me. She was so lovely. It was a fine weather all day.  My mom was washing her laundries  and cleaning  in my house.  I had a slight headache,  but  I could watch one of her  DVDs, the latest DVD in 2004-2005, for free on web site.  It was great than her two old DVD. I made up my mind to buy the DVD. When I was watching the her DVD on line with the PC in my room, my sister visited my house and went back home at 3:30. I had just finished watching her DVD in 60 minutes when she left home. I got to love her more. She was wearing gloves that showed us half her fingers outside like me. I wore that gloves in early winter to type a keyboard for my journal.  (DEC/29) 

    

Diary This is a notebook I bought at 100yen shop for mom. But I keep diary like Erica instead of my mom everyday.  

When I woke up at 3:30 this morning, I felt I had a hangover. I usually two cup of hot sake (rice wine) at dinner, but I felt so cold yesterday that I had three cup of hot sake for dinner last night. I had been in futon to listen to the radio, but I went into a sleep about 9:30 p.m. I was listening to　two radio English course that were recorded on the cassette tape by audio timer in futon. But I felt sleepy at 5:30, and fell asleep again until 8 a.m. It was a fine weather from morning. 2cm (1inch) snow on the ground this morning, but there was no snow on the blue plastic sheet that had covered on the car because the sheet had got blasts often so snow was not left on it, I think. I checked air pressure for those snow tires, they were basically OK. A meter did not get low pressure for them. Mom dug up the ground in the garden to take radishes for my sister who would come to my home then, and was washing them to remove mud. They got beautiful women. But the fine weather turned to cloudy after 1 p.m., so in my room got colder a little than before for short time. By the way, when if you get a headache of a hangover, what a medicine do you take? I take a spray of a nose these days because any painkiller does not get effect for me.  It gets effect than a general medicine for me. I had the last piece of Christmas cake at lunch. It was the cake that my sister brought for us on December 23. So we ran out of the all cake at home at last today. There is not any cake in my home now. I missed them. But I cannot see Christmas cake until next Christmas again. I would like to eat it with Erica next Christmas Eve. It is my dream. I wish that I would be with Erica on next Christmas Eve.　Please take a look to this picture. I did not know about the fact until I learned in radio basic English course 3, but you already know about that, don't you? What is a saucer for the cup for? If the coffee in the cup would spill on the saucer like this, I happened to spill in that case on the way to the living room to eat it,  but it can catch all the coffee.  It seems to be made by the rule. Christmas Cake This is a cake that was given from neighbor mom's friend. They could not eat whole of this cake.

Today is really cold day. A thermometer in my room says only 1 (33) degree now. I feel so cold. I am in an electric blanket and my feet are on the electric foot heater now to get warm without a kerosene fan heater.　I woke up at 5 this morning. It was snowing this morning. I walked to the car at 9:30 a.m. to drive mom to an ear or nose clinic near my house, the　plastic sheet that was the car had been already taken off by strong wind. I pulled the blue sheet to my house, and I sent her there. She wore boots　that had clampers that  I bought at a  DIY store for her the other day.  I dropped her off, I went to a 100 yen shop opposite of 100 shop I went to　often.  I got there at 10 o'clock, so I was the first customer for the store　today.  I bought a magic hand because  I found it was very useful tool at　the desk these days,  two elastic cords,  a pocket notebook of 2006,  and a plastic shovel. When I tried to get out of the store, "Powder Snow"  by　Remioromen that was used in the TV drama of Erica started sounding in　the store.  I felt like in the drama then with  Erica. I came home at 10:30.I cut an old elastic cord that  I used at the bike to eight, and  I put them on the blue sheet. And I tried to set the sheet in hard snowing, but it was　too windy,  so it was hard work.  Anyway  my car  was covered with the sheet again at last.  It was –1.1 (30) degrees outside around here at 2 p.m. when it was the hottest time zone usually. I felt really cold today. (DEC/27) 

Christmas Cake This is a cake my sister gave us. This is made by a sister store my sister worked at the store.  

Last night, I could not believe that it was raining outside when I was watching  TV of female figure skating of  Japan  2005 in the living room at 8 p.m. I like Asada Mao. She is really pretty girl. She is the fantastic female figure skater now.  But she is so young that she cannot join the Winter Olympic 2006 in Italy on February 2006 with the Olympic law. But I was sure that I heard the sound of raining then. But there was a little piled snow on the road this morning. It was about 2cm (1inch.) I woke up at half to six. I looked at the car when I tried to send mom to a clinic at 10 a.m. it had been covered with frozen snow like ice, especially the wind-screen and other glasses, too, because it was rainy last night. I watered on the windscreen with hot water in the bathtub, but it was not melted, and I had to remove the ice with the ice-tool.  I drove her to there and came back home, I covered the car with the plastic sheet because I was in trouble to remove the snow on the car whenever it snowed. But it was strange scenery. Anybody around here have not done like me. I have not almost seen cars like that until now. But I am a challenger. I could do it. By the way, as  I turned on the  TV noon, I saw that  Mr. Izutsu who was movie director was on a live variety  TV with  Tamori, comedian. He is a movie director who used Erica as actress in his movie in 2004. The movie was the story of the high school for North Korean in Kyoto. I have not watched the movie yet, but I heard often it was really interesting movie often. So the movie got some awards for Japanese movie of 2005 in this year. Of course, Erica got some the Rookie of the Year awards. Anyway, I knew that he would not introduce her next day on the TV, but it got true. Anyway, I ate Christmas cake instead of lunch. I was happy because I like cake. But I would have liked to eat a Christmas cake with Erika this holly Christmas Eve. It was my dream. However, she would eat Christmas cake with me next year. (DEC/26)

This morning was Christmas morning. 5 o'clock, I woke up, but there was not a present in my room for me. Santa Claus did not come to my house this year, too,  despite so much snow for his sledge in this year around here. I fell asleep at 9 p.m. for him last night, but I did not awake up by his tinkle of the bell. Of course, I did not put my socks beside my pillow,  and  I did not have a chimney at the house.  He seemed to pass through over my house this year, too. When I take a newspaper outside this morning, there was not also any present there for me as I thought. I have never got Christmas present all my life. But we had a Christmas cake that my sister bought for us, so we had it together in the living room noon today. We eat it on Christmas evening usually, but mom did not come home easily last night, so I went to futon without waiting her and the cake. She said to me at breakfast this morning, she seemed to come back home by a cab at 10 p.m. I already went to sleep then, I did not know that she came home. Anyway, today was Christmas day, but I went to a barbershop today. We did not have to visit to a church today. I left home at 9:30 a.m. and I parked my car at a parking lot beside the rail station because the barber did not have a parking lot. I got into the store, and I sit down the chair at the same time, and I had my short haircut, and I paid $14 to him and  got out of the store in 20  minutes.  Then  I  walked to a bookstore because I had enough time for my car of the parking ticket that the store gave. I do buy only magazine at a bookstore usually, but I went the store to look for a paperback to buy today. It was the original book of the TV drama of Erica. I found the book was only one in the bookshelves with a happy feeling, and I picked that up and carried it to the register. It was $5.I was glad when I saw the book cover, because Erica in a school uniform of the drama was printed on the paper. And as soon as I came back my car, I made my car head for DYI store. I looked for a bag of hobnail for mom's boots and found it and bought it. I spend $10 there. I have never got a Christmas present from mom, but I gave a Christmas present for her this year. It was snowing sometimes, but basically it was cloudy today. I came home at 11. I screwed the screws that I had just bought on her boots  with a driver soon.  She would not  fall down  on icy road  by that after this, and she would not hit her to a hard things head. Erica has fallen down and hit her chin and her forehead to the road. I did not meet her this Christmas, but I would see her on next Christmas, and I would get a Christmas present  for the first time  from her,  maybe I think.  So Erica would be  my first   Santa Claus despite skinny for me next year at last. She is my only Santa Clause,   so  I would have never seen him until now. (DEC/25)

Last night, mom came home at 10:30 p.m. by cab when I almost tried to go to bed. I had been watching DVD of Erica until then and TV a little in the living room. I thought she stayed in my uncle's house near the station in the night, so I was surprised by her. Of course, I had already locked all the doors, so she could not enter the house if I would not be in the living room then, and she would be frozen outside… According to her saying, when we had breakfast this morning, the uncle and mom got at the rail station at 5 p.m. yesterday, but his house was near the station, so he said to her "Let's walk to my house." But he fell down on the icy road, and his head hit on the block at the sidewalk beside NEC, and he bled a little from there. However, he was a lucky. A woman at NEC happened to pass there after the work, and she made a call to a taxi with her cell phone there. Then they got into the taxi, and got at his house in 1 minute, I heard so from her. He said to us, "I went to a clinic this morning for the injury." I saw the injury some time ago, but it was a slight scratch. By the way, Erica said herself that her favorite charm point in all her body was her forehead. I think so, too. As soon as she came home last night, she turned on the switch for bath, and had a meal and took a bath, and went to bed at 1 a.m. she said so to me this morning. Anyway, here came to the sun this morning, too. I woke up after 5 a.m. She was late than usual by the reason. When I was out to take a newspaper before breakfast, I walked to the car and checked the air pressure for the front left tire that had got flat yesterday. I was afraid that I did not want to look at the tire if I did not want, but I had to send mom to the house of his parents of the died uncle today. So I had to check the tire before leaving home. But that was a relief. It was not flat, and it had been 2.0 kg yesterday, but it kept 1.9kgthis morning. I thought it might get flat again in case it was worst. We have only a week in this year as the rest, so New Year's Sell by almost all stores starts from New Year's Day, so I would get new tires then and get a present. By the way, my car left home at 1 p.m. to go to a temple for his funeral, and called at the uncle's house and he also got into the car, and the car ran to the next town in the countryside. We passed through beside the Shmizuhara Station, and got at the temple in 20 minutes at 15km(9miles.) I was glad that it was not snowing today. I drove the car on another road to come home at2 p.m. And I have to go there again to pick them up today after getting mom's call this evening. Anyway, it seems to be my Christmas Eve of this year. I also woke up by the sound of mom who got out of bed at 4. She was going to go to Sendai today, so she woke up so early this morning. She got into the car and I sent her to the house of my uncle on the way to the rail station at 6 a.m. And the uncle who was waiting us got into the car, too, and I sent them to the station. I think they took the super express to go to Sendai at 6:45 a.m. and they arrived at the Sendai Station at 7:20 a.m. As soon as I came home, I had breakfast at 6:30. I have breakfast about 8 a.m. usually, so it was quite early, I had a cup of green tea after having breakfast usually, but today was so early to get meal, so I had a cup of coffee this morning with bossa nova music this morning. By the way, I tried to go to barber shop near the station by car at 9:30. I got into the car and that started running, but I felt strange feeling at the front left tire soon. I got off the car soon, and looked at the tire, then it had got flatted completely. However, when I drove the car this early morning, I thought it did not have a problem especially. Anyway, I thought it was lucky at least because it was not this early morning. The car was returned to the parking soon, and as I looked into the tire, it almost got out of the wheel. So only pushing an air-pump was not enough there, so I had to take off the wheel from the car at fast. But this time, an jack did not get into the space to lift up the car because the tire was quite flat and almost only the wheel, and there was thick frozen icy snow on the road under the car. So there was not an enough space to lift up that. So I had to carry a spade there to remove that at fast. Then I could lift up the car with the pure jack that was in the trunk usually at last. I carried the flat tire to my house. But the tire was out of the wheel completely, so I gave a big kick to the wheel to return the tire right. And then, my hands pushed an air-pump 300 times. I took off my clothes on the way to the finish and took a bottle of milk after the work. And I put the tire soon. It was a fine from early morning, but it started snowing from when I took off the wheel. By the way, I did not check air pressure for these tires even once after changing tire on December 6. In face, these snow tires got to leak the air from inside the tire easily from December 2002. That's because they have been used since 1994 every winter, I think. When I got the car, they were already put on the car. The air in the tires leaked easily from about that time. But I have been using them as I was adding air with a hand pump  for them air again and again until now. That's why I think snow tire's life is seven years. They are Bridgestone MZ-01. I think it is the time to change new tire anymore. The work was over at 11 a.m. I was so tired, so I did not go to a barbershop at last. By the way, my big sister came to my house at 3:45 p.m. suddenly. She brought a box of Christmas cake with her for us. I wanted to show Erica's DVD for her, but she had to go back home soon so she could see only her DVD package. She seemed to regret that she could not watch her DVD.  (DEC/23)  

Mt. Yakeishi This place is near the arbor. I have climbed these mountains often, on snow too when I was student. 

I woke up at 5 a.m.  naturally.  But today is almost the winter  solstice, so outside  was dark yet.  I turned  on the radio and kept  listening to that until  8 a.m. after that as usual.  It was a dark cloudy all day.  By  the way, my  uncle  in  law  passed  away  yesterday  morning suddenly.  He  was a younger brother in law for my dad. He was a great person in my relations. We  were really sad  because we lost him now. He was  found in futon, but I heard  he had already died there.  He was born in next  to our city.  There is a rail station  where  it was the nearest  rail station for his parent's home on my web page, 12/21 2004.  I used the picture  before  he died just one year ago  by chance.  He was at the Self-Defense Forces and had been living in Sendai, 100km far away to the south.  He had an only son  who was born in the same year with me. His son had a little handicap, so he has taken care of him and protect him until now.  Mom, my uncle, his wife and I have been to Sendai and visited to see him in the hospital about  6 years ago. He had an operation for his stomach. But we have not heard about that his condition for his body had a serious damage  at all.  I thought he  was not so bad for  him.  But he went to the other world without  saying  anything  to us  yesterday suddenly.  It got to be the last  chance for me to see him. His life was really hard.  Would you pray for the repose of his soul? Thank you.  By the way, K was in the FM radio program after  3 p.m. K is  Korean singer, but he is singing in Japan now, too.  His song  "Only Human"  was used on the TV drama of Erica. It was a so great song that I also  got to like the song.  He is belonged to the same office with Erica. He was singing with playing the piano himself  in the department store in Chiba on December 3, this month, my  Erica was also listening to his singing on the chair beside the piano.  He was singing a song "White Christmas" with his electric piano himself on the live radio. His high tone voice is fantastic.  It seemed to be called  "Voice from the Heaven" according to DJ Mika. I recorded it to the cassette tape as I was listening to, so I was going to listen to the tape after that again.　(DEC/22)

Whenever I wake up in the morning, I look at the digital clock of the stereo timer beside futon, but it was 5 o'clock when I woke up this morning naturally as usual. I felt a little cold in futon then. I noticed the coverlet futon slid a little. I almost got a cold. And as you know, I was in my room without a kerosene fan heater yesterday, so I started feeling sleepy like a victim in the snow mountain then. I wondered if I got a cold because I had a slight headache then. But at first, I thought it was a hangover, but I had runny nose after getting up out of futon at 8, so I thought I had a cold at last, I was in cold too much. I took a medicine of cold after having breakfast. I was staying in futon in the morning. However, I am sitting on the chair without kerosene heater like yesterday at the desk from 11 a.m. I was been covering with the electric blanket and my feet on the foot warmer now. The air temperature in my room is 3 (38) degrees now at 4 p.m. If it would go to 0 degrees, blood in my fingers would start to be frozen from these fingertips. I tried putting another gloves on the gloves to get warm more. But I could not get to do touch-typing by that, so I took the added gloves out shortly. Sometimes I make my fingers go to between my legs to get warm as a rest to type keyboard. That is a warm place on my body like visiting Hawaii for my fingers. I am using a neck warmer that I bought at 100yen shop last year in my room, so my glasses get fogged by my breath often. Anyway, I returned at the desk that was put on the PC display with no a cold, and I am typing for my journal today, too. By the way, my mom wanted to visit a house of her relation, so she asked me to send her thereby car in the afternoon. We left home at 12:30, and the car called at the supermarket for her shopping to get a present from her on the way there. She bought a box of beers. And I sent her in front of the house, and dropped her with the present off and came back home at 1 p.m. By the way, I watched the TV drama of Erica last night. It was the 11th story, last story. We got wet at the corner of our eyes by her last night. She made our eyes wet with our tears this time, too. I can declare the drama of Erica was the best drama of this year for me. No, I can say that it is one of my best TV dramas in my life. I would not forget the drama and her forever. She had gone to the other world on the drama last night as we were left, but she has been living in my heart until now as before.  (DEC/21)

It was 4 o'clock when I woke up this morning. Last night, I fell asleepat once after listening to the radio of T.George at 10 p.m.  A newspaper deliveryman came to my house at 4:20 a.m. with a paper by motorbike.I got out of futon at 5:20 a.m. and   I was out of home because I had to take out a trash bag this morning.  The road to the hut was snowy andicy.  But I am a challenger.  So I went to there by scooter.   Of course, it put a summer tire on.   I felt a little bright outside  at 6 o'clock whenI tried to go there,  but it was not the sun light,  it was moon light.  The thermometer  outside said  - 6 (21)  degrees then.   By the way, it was really cold these days,  so  Mom said  to me that the water did not go through  there in the pipe at the  washstand,  then I saw there that itwas blocked   by something,  so something seemed to  be stuffed there and it seemed to be frozen at inside the pipe. When I took out the pipe, there was an ice bar stuffed in the pipe like an icicle. I heated the pipewith hot water, and the ice was removed from there. I did laundry afterhaving breakfast from 8:30 to 10 a.m. When I washed the clothes, I useda halogen heater at the room, but my feet were keeping really cold. SoI brought a foot heater from my room instead of the heater. My feet got warm at last then. My Mom used the halogen heater when she tooka bath,   but it was not warm than we  thought,  so it did not make the room be very warm for us until now. So I started saving kerosene in myroom from yesterday, so I carried the kerosene heater in the living roomto the room to use that excessive kerosene for Mom to get warm of the room.  Of course,  I was not using a kerosene fan heater now,  too.  I am using a foot warmer and an electric blanket now. But I put a thick suitsthat  I wore  when  I rode  motorcycle in the winter  on at first in the afternoon at the desk,  but  I also felt cold in 30 minutes,  I put theminstead of that at 2 p.m.  A thermometer in my room is 3 (37) degrees now. My fingers in thick gloves started being frozen. By the way, Erica got kerosene as prize of movie yesterday.  I want she to give me that, if  she does not use that.  It was really cold this morning as the moon was in the sky, and the blue skies in the morning, but it started snowingfrom 2 p.m. I would keep feeling cold until the spring.  By the way, would you look at this picture? It was a smaller than Kyoto,　the capital city of Japan then, there was the second big city in Japan 800 years ago near the bridge. The city was the capital city of the northern country of Japan until 800 years ago like Scotland.  Yoshitune was one of thefamous bushi in Japan. He was killed on the hill by hisldest brother. (DEC/20)

I woke up at 6:30 this morning despite Sunday morning, but I fell asleep at 0 o'clock last night. I listened to the jazz on the radio in futon until falling　asleep. Mom went to a nearby temple to clean the building. Today was a cleaning day of this year once a year. And she with other members went to karaoke after cleaning there like every year. I went to DIY store by carat 10 a.m. I bought a foot warmer at $10, a can shaving foam, aluminum coating sheet for bath inside, and a shovel. It was a fine then, but it was too windy, so I felt a really cold. When I got at a parking lot, there were not a lot of cars there as I thought, but when I got out of the store, there were many cars full on the parking. A car of them waited for me I moved out. A large numbers of customers were there because it was the end of the year, and Christmas was heading for us. As soon as I came home, I put a foot warmer under the desk and turned on the switch soon. I may say it is for my journal. There was an old broken foot warmer in the closet. It was used until 6 years ago for our parakeet, Taroppe, in the cage in futon every night. I checked it whether I could use it or not at first. But it kept cool in ten minutes, too. So I broke up it before going to the store to buy new one, but it could not get warm anymore. That's why I decided to buy new one. It is an electric heater, and the running cost is 2yen (1.5 cent) an hour. It is very cheaper than the kerosene heater in my room I have used. So I would not have to buy kerosene very often. Mom came home at 4. It started snowing from 12:30 p.m. so the lowest temperature of today was at 2 p.m. when it was the highest at the day usually.  By the way, the thermometer in my room said that it was 5(41) degrees now with the only that heater.  (DEC/18)

I went to DIY store by carat 10 a.m. I bought a foot warmer at $10, a can shaving foam, aluminum coating sheet for bath inside, and a shovel. It was a fine then, but it was too windy, so I felt a really cold. When I got at a parking lot, there were not a lot of cars there as I thought, but when I got out of the store, there were many cars full on the parking. A car of them waited for me I moved out. A large numbers of customers were there because it was the end of the year, and Christmas was heading for us. As soon as I came home, I put a foot warmer under the desk and turned on the switch soon. I may say it is for my journal. There was an old broken foot warmer in the closet. It was used until 6 years ago for our parakeet, Taroppe, in the cage in futon every night. I checked it whether I could use it or not at first. But it kept cool in ten minutes, too. So I broke up it before going to the store to buy new one, but it could not get warm anymore. That's why I decided to buy new one. It is an electric heater, and the running cost is 2yen (1.5 cent) an hour. It is very cheaper than the kerosene heater in my room I have used. So I would not have to buy kerosene very often. Mom came home at 4. It started snowing from 12:30 p.m. so the lowest temperature of today was at 2 p.m. when it was the highest at the day usually.  By the way, the thermometer in my room said that it was 5(41) degrees now with the only that heater.  (DEC/18)

There was a little powerful earthquake in the midnight when I was sleeping. I thought it would be a terrible earthquake then, but it was level 3 around here, according to the news on the Internet when I saw　this morning. It said that there had been an earthquake at 3:32 a.m. around northern Japan. The place where it was the biggest was level 4. By the way, the earthquake disaster around Kobe in Japan was level 7in 1995. Of course, I had been staying in futon when I was shaking by that. But we are used to being an earthquake, so basically we are not surprised by a little earthquake, and we have been staying in the bed, especially now is winter. I forgot the earthquake in the morning at all, but Mom said to me about the earthquake at breakfast that she had got out of the bed then, so it reminded me that there was a big earthquake last night. Anyway, I woke up at 7 o'clock without the memory of that. I could sleep well than usual. There was not any snow on the road this morning after a long time, so I did not have to sweep snow. It was a fine all day today. My big sister came to my house at 2 p.m. She gave me a box of beer (0.35liters/24cans) again. And Mom gave us some money as our allowance, and we got it as her children from her at our ease. She went back home at 3:30 p.m. but she was with Mom because Mom wanted to go to a sweet shop near my house. She came back home at quarter past four. (DEC/17)

Waterweay The cat run away over there before I knew. It was walking on the road, but it moved into the waterway.
 

I got out of futon and went downstairs at 7:30 a.m. I tried to open the aluminum-coating bag that had the water tank inside for the turtle in the living room as usual soon, but I saw bad accident before the work. The plug of the heater for the water tank had been pulled out of the outlet. That was relief. He was living in the cold water, but he looked be dead tired. I did not know when the plug was pulled, but there was a little water in the bag usually in the morning by vapor, but there was no water at all. So I thought the plug had been pulled since last evening. Whenever I opened the bag in the morning usually, the thermometer said it was about 23(73) degrees, but I saw that it was 0(32) degrees this morning. The water in the tank was about to be frozen in a couple of minutes. He was survived. But his all legs were stretched as if he lost consciousness. But I knew turtles hibernate, so maybe basically I thought he was okay. However, if it would be human, it would be sure to be died, because the lowest temperature was -5.2(22) degrees this morning. The water in the plastic bottle outside for exchanging water to the water tank was completely frozen this morning before I knew. It was not almost melted despite bright daytime. By the way, Mom and I left home at 10:30 and I drove Mom to a supermarket near my house. I went into the bookstore next to the store and bought a textbook of the radio business English course for the next month. She bought a lot of foods. And I drove her to the central city to get together with her relations for hers money meeting. I dropped her off there, and went to another bookstore, and bought another textbook. And when I tried to go home, I called at a gas station on my way home to buy kerosene. I bought 96 liters for that with five plastic tanks. I come back home at 12 o'clock.  (DEC/16)

When I woke up this morning, I found it was a little bright outside. It was 6:20 when I woke up. It was a fine morning. 1 cm snow was on the ground this morning, too. I swept the road of the snow with a bamboo broom this morning, too. I was at home all day, especially in my room. By the way, I keep mom's diary on an ordinary notebook instead of her like Erica. Mom has not had a custom to keep a diary and a household accounts, and she has bad handwriting. So I have written her New Year's cards instead of her every year. By the way, I have a blog in Japan, but off course, it was in Japanese. I got a request from an unknown member to link together my blog suddenly today. I was OK. It was from a girl at a junior high school. I was a little surprised for her, but I was glad to get a mail from her, because I had no friend in the blog site. There are 20 customers for my blog of Japan in average to visit, but the figures are smaller than my site in the US. Basically I am keeping a diary on the blog about Erica every day. but so I was given a link of diary from her. She seemed a fan to the boy, Aso-kun, in the drama. He is a classmate in the same class for Erica. We are in the same boat now. We would be able to chat about the same TV drama with her. She was from his side, and I was from Erica side there.  (DEC/15)

My wake-up time was 5 o'clock this morning. It was early for me because I had fallen asleep at half past 11 p.m. I watched the TV drama of Erica last night as I said yesterday. But it was really really sad real story. So I was excited and could not sleep well easily after listening to the radio of business English until 11 o'clock. I loved Erica more and more. My heart was moved deeply by her. Her mother was come from France. I want to her to write her name and mine on the frozen glass with her fingertip in the future, too. By the way, it was cold this morning, too. When I got out of futon at 7 o'clock and opened the curtain of the window, it had been snowing since yesterday early evening yet. I was out to take a newspaper, there was a snow at 3cm (1inch) on the ground. I swept the road of the snow until the down path with the bamboo broom this morning, too. There was not my business today, and I didn't have Mom's request to me, so I was in home all day. Snowing had been going until noon. I could see the sun on the blue sky in the afternoon. Anyway, today was also cold day.  By the way, can you look at the picture of today? I picked them up a couple of years ago. But I have never tried them to the snow tire before. But I tried them on the top of the bank when I changed the tire, but they were smaller than snow tire, so they were not fit for them. But I tried it to summer tire at this time after washing summer tire in the garden. Then they were just fit for summer tire like this. I thought they were for RV car before trying. But they were small than the snow tire so I made to give my sister who had a small car.  It takes one hour to change snow tire as it was snowing suddenly, so I only put these chains on the front of summer tire like this without jack up within 10 minutes because my car is a front-drive-car.  By the way, Mr. Titi (Matsumura) is running a secondhand goods store "Recycle shop Kamematsu" by himself in Kyoto, I think, but he was running an antique store until a couple years ago, but he did remodeling for the store to make it fit to this times. His hobby is what he collects the guitars, especially it is he pick up the guitars left on the road as a junk at his neighborhood in the early morning.  (DEC/14)

I woke up at 6:20. Do you think it was a little late for me to wake up this morning? Yes, I think so, too. It was cold morning, too, but it was a little warmly than yesterday. I opened the door of the entrance to take a newspaper from the mailbox after listening to the radio at 7 a.m. Then, there was 2cm (1inch) snow on the ground. There were only footprints of the newspaper deliveryman on the snow of the slope. I swept the road of the snow before having breakfast. I saw the name of Aso-kun who was a boy of Erica's friend on the TV page of the paper by chance. Of course, I watched the TV noon. I was asked to wash rice in the bag from mom when we were having breakfast, but he said that he like eating rice on the　TV. His best favorite food seemed rice. I went to a hut that had a new washing machine for rice with a paper bag of rice, 30kg(66pounds), by car near my house soon at 12:40 after watching the TV. The cost was 300 yen($2.5) to wash that, and it was just for 10 minutes. It was so earlier than old machine. And I went to a bookstore to copy to the paper of music CD　for mom because she asked to me the work. And I called at the post office to buy New Year's card. I bought that four piece of cards there at $1.8, and　I came home at 1:10 p.m. and I poured kerosene in the three plastic tanks that I bought at TDIY store the other day that were at the basement into the main big steel tank at last, because we about run out of the kerosene in the tank. It started snowing from 4 o'clock. Basically it was cloudy and cold all day today. Of course, I am going to watch the TV drama from nine to meet Erica. Passing the time in a week was sooner than before by her. I wonder how I would write on my web page without her, the drama is not　on TV next year.   (DEC/13)

It was still dark outside when I woke up at 5:40 a.m. this morning. But I didn't know it was so cold this morning like that then yet. That was because according to the TV weather forecast that I watched last night, it said it would be -3 (27) degrees around here tomorrow morning. But the glass of the window had been frozen when I opened the curtain. I knew it was the coldest this morning by that. I saw the web site of the Meteorological Agency just right now to look into the temperature of today, it was -8.9 (15)degrees at 4 a.m. this morning! It was the same temperature as cold as February in the morning. All newspaper deliverymen in Japan took a day off this morning, so they were a little lucky. But a cold weather would be going to cover over Japan for a while. By the way, about that time when I update for my web page in the early morning every day, I was sure to see a weather forecast of the local TV every last night when we had dinner to know the highest temperature and lowest temperature of the day correctly. The smile of Miss Kawahara who was an announcer of the TV was so lovely. Her smile by her white teeth like corn was my favorite. I thought her smile was similar to Mrs. Yakushimaru who was a mother of Erica on the TV drama at that time. And then, the TV station that had Ms. Kawahara started broadcasting the drama with Erica from this October. I took an aluminum-coating bag from the water tank that had a turtle every morning about 7 a.m., so it raised vapor more from the surface of the water than usual morning. But the turtle was full of vigor with heater from morning despite the coldest morning in this winter. It just looked him at the hot spring then. Of course, I was at home all day today, too. Mom went out on feet in the afternoon for her business. I printed New Year's cards in my room today. Almost all Japanese people don't send Christmas card, but we have a custom to send New Year's card. I have to put cards into the post for our relations and mom's friend instead of mom until on 25 December to arrive at each home for them on New Year's Day. I visited to there and designed for the cards from the web site of Canon to make New Year's card like last year, but I have had a printer of Epson since 2000. I started making cards with my old first PC, Fujitsu 657, from 9 a.m. and finished it at 3 p.m. because it took five minutes per a card to print by the PC printer. Those cards, 30 sheets of cards were made for PC printer, so it printed special finished for them, so it took that time so much. Anyway, one of my serious troubles at the end of the year of every year was over earlier at last than usual years. That's why I can have a spare time despite the end of the year busy. Only 657 PC had a software to make cards, so I turned on the old PC after an interval of a half year. It worked a good job despite a work after a long time.  (DEC/12)

When I woke up this morning, it was already bright from outside. It was unusual for me. I looked at the clock beside futon, it said 7:45 a.m. it was quite late for me to wake up. I got up of the futon and opened the curtain of my room soon. Then, it had been snowing yet. I saw snow of height of 15cm (0.5feet) on the floor as new snow. I had to clear the road of the snow this morning as I thought yesterday. I cleared snow from the road to the entrance with a snow-dump, a kind of shovel, after having breakfast. I think a typhoon would come to Florida often, but snow clouds would rarely come to there. By the way, I think you know about Erica, but she likes going to sea in the winter, because her favorite season is the winter. So she also seems to like the Aleutian Islands where I want to go rather than Hawaii Islands like me. We are in the same boat to go there. Anyway, it was good exercise for me in the winter, because I don't do workout usual, especially in the winter. The skies started going to blue skies from snow clouds at 10 a.m. The outside got to be more and more brightly. I dropped the snow on the car on the ground with the snowbrush noon after listening to the English radio to learn, because it was a fine weather outside, and cleared the around the car of the snow with the show shovel to get the escape road for the car, because the car was parked on the field path usually. And after that, I took the battery of XL125R, my old motorcycle, out to keep it in my room. A battery is weak to cold, and I would not ride it until the spring. I rode it only 750km (470miles) this year from when I put the battery on there in April for eight month. It was a little distance than last year's. I decided that I would not kick it to start the engine without the battery until the spring, because the engine broke this spring, I had started the engine without that in the winter. And then, I took a rest after the outside work, so I made a cup of drip coffee that my sister had given me the other day, and I felt like listening to the jazz music after a long time, then I put LP record on the turntable. It was "8:30" by the Weather Report in 1979. When I listened to the record for the first time at a cafe to listen to jazz music in Yokohama with my cousin, I was 19 years old. It reminded me that I felt in 19 years old. Erica is the same age, 19 years old now. I wonder how she is feeling to herself now.  (DEC/10) 

　   
Before Work I used to listen to the radio in the car without heater at winter early evening here until 5 years ago.
 

I woke up at 6:30 this morning. It was usual cloudy in the morning, but it started snowing at about 10:30. It has been snowing after that. Mom went to a public house to meet neighbors to chat this morning. I was at home all day today, too. So there was not any news about me today, too. Maybe I would have to clear the road of the snow and clear the roof of the car of the snow tomorrow morning. Much snow would be piled on the ground then. I take a rest all day today at home. I am lucky because I changed tire in sunny day without strong north wind. A green cloth is a carpet on the trunk. The red thing is an oil jack near front tire. I changed tire by myself for a half hour. I thought this place was the best place and the best experience to change tires in all my life. I wonder if Erica can change tire by herself when she gets flat tire on the road. However, she should only call me then. Usually it is the warmest at 2 p.m. in the day, but it is the coldest at 2 p.m. today.  (DEC/10)

"4:40" The timer of the stereo beside futon showed me that when I woke up. I fell asleep at 11 p.m. So it was early for me, but I woke up naturally as usual, so I didn't feel sleepy almost. Then, I was in futon until7 a.m. and was listening to the radio as usual. It was cloudy from morning, but started clearing up from around 10:30 a.m. Mom went to a temple with other members with the lunchbox at 9 a.m. to practice. I was at home all day. And I turned on the PC at 2 p.m. Especially Friday is boring. So there is not anything to write for me today. (DEC/9)

I woke up at 5 o'clock this morning. I took out a plastic bag filled with a lot of plastic bottles to the hut by scooter to recycle at 8:30 after having breakfast. I put a neck warmer and thick rubber gloves, but it was still a little cold for me. I picked up dead leaves and put them into the plastic bag around the hut of my house from 11 to 12. Then, my older sister came to my house at quarter to 12 after making a call to mom, when I was working behind the hut. Mom was working in the garden to wash her crops by cold water then. As soon as she came to home, she started helping mom with the work. My sister and I started cooking a noodle served hot in a pan that she bought three at drug store on the way to here, they were only $9 despite having a steel pan. I poured hot water from the pot into the each pan and put them on the stove. She took leeks out of the fridge and chopped that and added into the pot. I carried three pots on the table in the living room. We got together there and had noodle in the pot. It was nice taste despite the price. She gave us gorgeous slippers that she bought at the drug store at the same time with the noodles, like fur. But it was good for me despite cheap one at $3, I am wearing the slippers now and was writing this journal. They are under the desk now. I think they are very nice in the winter. And she gave me six can beers, and a packed of drip coffee. We were also chatting in the living room after having meal for two hours. And she had another plan, so she went back home at 2:30 p.m. with mom's crops as presents from her. By the way, this water wheel at the pond was used to spin to the small table set with some chairs on the board despite no passengers whenever I came to the park.   (DEC/8)

Then, itgot to be from 0.01kg to 2.1kg. But I was boring after that, so I made up mymind to change tire of the car. I carried four snow tires to the car by a hand cart, and put them into the trunk, and an oil jack that I bought at $20 two years ago etc, because I didn't want to change tire around the car,there was snow around the car yet, and it was a narrow place to changetire. But I changed tire at there on the snow on December 30 last year, and it seemed to be much snow in this winter. So I made up my mind to change tire earlier than last year. I went to a top of the bank of the river. That place was just near my sister's house. I saw her house from there. I put only pants of the rainwear on because I thought there was snow onthe bank yet. But there was not snow on the paved road at all, so that was perfect dry condition. And it is windy by northern wind usually becauseit is the high place and there isn't anything around there. But it was notalmost windy today, and it was a fine weather. It was lucky to come theretoday. Changing tires were over just 30 minutes, it was the best work for all my changing tire work, and came home 13:20 p.m. in five minutes. Then,two Erica DVDs in the box that I ordered on the Internet on December 1 was in the mailbox.. They seemed to be arrived to the box when I was changing tires. I also got a little happy this morning. I woke up at 6:23 a.m. and turned on the radio to listen to TV sound of 8ch. I wanted to listen to Erica's news on the TV program. She is in the TV drama of 8ch. I could watch her with Kat 7:45 on 8ch at last. Of course, I recorded her on the video. By the way, I already cleared the road around the car of snow yesterday because I had the plan to send mom to next day. But it was already snowing again when I woke up, and wet new snow already was piled 3cm on the ground. My car put summer tire on yet, but I had to drive her there. So I walked to the main street in the snow with an umbrella to check snow situation on the road whether my car could run there or not with summer tire. And I judged I could drive on the a little ice road with summer tire. I drove her to there where she wanted to be sent at 9:30 safely. She was asked from her acquaintance to give a Buddhism song for the dead man. But anyone didn't pick her up here despite snow, and anyone didn't send her to her house despite ice road. So she had to walk to come back home for more than 1 hour on wet and icy road. She came back home at 3 p.m. That was why she didn't have to visit the house, I think. I wonder what they thought if she would have slipped and fell down on the icy road. So I sent her thereby car despite summer tire on icy road. Anyway, I pushed it air 250 times to the only tire that had no air pressure this morning, by the hand-air-pump until normal level. I got tired a little. I have another one yet, and I had to change summer tire to snow tire in the near future outside by myself.  (DEC/5)

I woke up at 7 o'clock this morning. It was a fine morning, but there was snow piled 20cm (0.6feets) on the ground around here. I cleared the road of the snow with the snow shovel after having breakfast, and clear the snow from the roof of the car noon because I would have to send mom to the house that there was a dead man tomorrow by car. And I covered the battery with a piece of lagging to protect from cold wind. I put an air jack, and a bag of sand and gravels, because if tire would be spinning on the icy road. There were four snow tires in the basement. But two tires had no air pressure at all. I could push them by my foot easily. They were left frontand rear tires. But another two tires, right front and rear tires, had a little air pressure. The rear one was 0.8kg. So I had to push the hand air pump 150 times to rise up to the 2.0 kg, and the front one was just a 0.4 kg, so I had to push that 200 times as well. It was good workout for me. It was fine day, so snow was melted today half of that. By the way, there was a news about Erika on the Internet this morning. It made me very happy. In fact, I ordered her 2 piece of DVDs the day before yesterday. She visited a department store SOGO in Chiba, near Tokyo, yesterday on the welfare event, and sit on the chair beside the piano, and listening to the singing by K who was a singer in Korea, and singing a little voice with him together on the stage. His that song is used in her drama now.  I wonder when she and I would stand side by side together like the news picture, and walk together. I wonder if the day that we sing song together come as well in the future. (DEC/4)

I woke up at 3:45 a.m. but I fell asleep at 11:15 p.m. last night, and I got tired by the work of yesterday. By the way, there was a little powerful earthquake in the bathtub at 10:13 p.m. last night, like Deborah. It was for the first time for me in all my life. But it was the first earthquake there for Deborah. I seemed to feel seasick in there for a while by moving water after stopping the earthquake. By the way, I didn't feel sleepy after waking up. But I seemed to sleep again from 6 to 8 o'clock before I knew. But I was surprised of the scenery outside when I woke up again. Snow was falling and piled on the ground already about 5 cm. But when I took a newspaper at the mailbox at 5:45, there was no snow outside at all. My car has ordinary tire, but I had to drive mom to the store, so I had to drive the car without putting snow tire on. And then, we arrived to the store safely by my driving technique, it was snowing hard more, but I came home safely at 11:30. There were a lot of flowerpots in the garden. But snow was already piled on them from the morning. I removed the snow from the flowerpots, and they were covered with a sheet of plastic to protect snow or cold wind by me at last. It has also been snowing after that so I couldn't go there to pick her up, she didn't gave me a call and walked for 2 hours on the snow and got home at 4 p.m. in the snowing. When she came home immediately, she turned on the bath and took a bath soon. It was the first snow here in this winter. The air temperature at 2 p.m. that was maximum in the day usually was -0.2 (32) degrees today. (DEC/3)

I woke up at 5:30 this morning. It was raining sometimes from 6 to 9 a.m. My mom and I went to the field at 9:30. She harvested her crops and I put them into the bag and carried them to the car. I got wet in the jacket soon because I didn't do workout enough in daily life. I dried myself on the towel for my wet body and took water from the plastic bottle after taking off my sweatshirt. It was windy day, so it was cold for us, but we was working hard so it was not cold very for us than I thought. I carried four Chinese cabbage bags, three leek bags, and two carrot bags to behind the car, and put them into the trunk and at back seat after the work by myself. The order of the hard work to carry them:Carrots>cabbages& gt;leeks. We came home at 11 a.m. And I carried them with the handcart to my house on the upslope by three times from the car. It almost finished at 11:30, but mom was washing the crops by water at the water place of the garden until 2 p.m. I think I do not have to almost go to the filed to work any more by the work of today. I got tired by the work a little. I felt sleepy. By the way, there is a big wooden house on the slope on this picture, but it was a free public school of woodwork on the slope. However, I have never seen person in the school. As you can see, this season was beautiful of the scenery by red leaves of autumn. But by that, I think this park is an excellent park like this. I woke up at 5:30. I was in home in this morning, but I went out in the afternoon after a long time. I went to a DIY store after 1 p.m. I bought thick rubber gloves to wash dishes and some things that mom asked me to buy, such as plastic bags for trash, a packed of solid fuel for nabe that was a hot-pot cooked at the table, and a bunch of white gloves that were made from cotton, and walked to a bookstore near there to see a pocketbook of next year because I was not enough walking usually. But there was not that to want to buy for me, so I went to another DIY store by car. I bought a next year pocket notebook, duckboards for futon because I had been putting futon on tatami in the winter without folding so tatami got wet under futon, and a short coat that was filled with cotton for in the house. I came back home at 3:45 p.m. My uncle who is dad's little brother and his wife bad visited to my house. They were chatting with mom when I came home. I joined them and chatted when they went back home until 4:30 p.m. He seemed to be really interest in my digital camera. I taught him how to use that, and he took a picture of my mom with that. He asked me how to make a New Year's card of mine. I answered him that it was designed and printed by PC and a PC printer. He said he had already asked a printer to print his cards near their house. They went back home with a box of her crops in the trunk.  (DEC/1)
